The company's first film would be 1986's Castle in the Sky, an original fantasy adventure that Miyazaki wrote and directed.Ĭastle opens on a pre-teen girl named Sheeta (voiced by Anna Paquin in Disney's English dub) being pursued aboard an aircraft. Having risen up from in-between artist to writer and director, Miyazaki founded Tokyo's Studio Ghibli with fellow seasoned animation filmmaker Isao Takahata. In 1985, after twenty-four years of finding work wherever he could, Hayao Miyazaki had a place to call home. They race to find the floating castle of Laputa: a city fabled to contain riches beyond belief as well as power and technology capable of world domination. Muska, Sheeta’s kidnapper, and the pirate matron Dola who’s got her own motivations. This very necklace would make them targets of Col. But for some reason, when a boy named Pazu saw her, she was steadily floating down the sky with a glowing crystal around her neck. This action required her to jump to her death since she just plummeted from an airship. The story opens with Sheeta’s escape from her kidnappers. I just heard about this is passing and had no idea on what the story could be about so it really took (and amazed) me by surprise. I don’t know why but I was mesmerized by this film. If I have to list down my top three Ghibli or just Miyazaki films, this film would be one among those chosen ones.
